Become a Social Worker in Oklahoma

Oklahoma law recognizes five classes of social workers: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Social Worker-Administration (LSW-Adm), and Social Worker Associate (SWA). The requirements are as follows:

Oklahoma LCSW

Oklahoma LCSW Education Requirement: Completion of a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited master’s degree in social work.

Oklahoma LCSW Exam: Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Clinical Level Examination

Field Requirement : Must complete two (2) years of full-time or the equivalent thereto of part-time experience, a total of 4,000 hours, of post graduate practice experience under the supervision of a licensed social worker with the same social work practice specialty. Those seeking clinical licensure must have at least 3,000 hours of direct client contact, including 100 hours of face-to-face educational supervision by the supervisor.

Fee: $150 application fee, $45 criminal background fee, $260 ASWB examination fee

License Renewal: Renewal is required every year. Requirements for renewal are 16 hours of continued education, including 3 hours of ethics, and payment of a $100 renewal fee.

Oklahoma LMSW

Oklahoma LMSW Education Requirement: Completion of a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited master’s degree in social work.

Oklahoma LMSW Exam: Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Master’s Level Examination

Fee: $150 application fee, $45 criminal background fee, $230 ASWB examination fee

Oklahoma LSW-ADM (Licensed Social Worker-Administration)

Oklahoma LSW-ADM Education Requirement: Completion of a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited master’s degree in social work.

Oklahoma LSW-ADM Exam: Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Advanced Generalist Examination

Field Requirement: Must complete two (2) years of full-time or the equivalent thereto of part-time experience, a total of 4,000 hours, of post graduate practice experience under the supervision of a licensed social worker with the same social work practice specialty, including 100 hours of face-to-face educational supervision by the supervisor.

Fee: $150 application fee, $45 criminal background fee, $260 ASWB examination fee

Oklahoma LSWA (Licensed Social Work Associate)

Oklahoma LSWA Education Requirement: Completion of a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited baccalaureate degree in social work.

Oklahoma LSWA Exam: Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Bachelor’s Level Examination

Field Requirement: 4,000 hours of full-time post-degree experience over two years or the equivalent of part-time experience under professional supervision of a licensed clinical social worker, LSW or LSW-Adm; must include at least 100 hours of face-to-face educational supervision by the supervisor 

Fee: $150 application fee, $45 criminal background fee, $230 ASWB examination fee

License Renewal: At 3 of these hours must be categorized as ethics training.
